Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)Computer Engineering
Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence - you’ve heard of them, but you want to know what they involve? We show you how hardware and software are connected. Because they can only unfold their potential in harmony. Together we will explore how it goes from an electrical impulse to an action. You will take this knowledge and develop the systems of tomorrow.
The broad basic training in Software Engineering, Information Technology and mathematics is the basis for your professional future. From the sixth semester onwards, you will choose a specialisation in autonomous systems or cyber-physical systems.
All modern systems record, process and pass on information. For this purpose, the teachings of Computer Engineering are used again and again. It develops the basis for the solutions of the future. With a degree in Computer Engineering, you can thus gain a foothold in any technical field. Highly specialised experts are in great demand worldwide. Your areas of focus will shape your possible career paths.
Your career prospects
If machines or programmes run almost by themselves, they are autonomous systems. If software and hardware act (partially) autonomously together, they are a cyber-physical system.
For example, you might work as:
Embedded hardware and software developer
Software developer for control units of autonomous systems

Exchange students must meet the language requirement of the respective Exchange Programme.
For whom is the study programme suitable?
Are you interested in technology and like to try things out yourself? Do you like to build machines? Do you want to find out how to solve hardware-related problems with software? Would you also like to write your own software? Can you think outside the box and discover new paths? If you enjoy finding solutions to technical problems, then Computer Engineering is right for you.
“Computer Engineering is the link between hardware and software. I think that’s even more important today than it was then, because everything has a micro controller in it somewhere. In the coffee machine, for example, there is a micro controller with a small display that has to be programmed. On the other hand, electronics are also in there, so you need the basics that are taught in the degree.”
I am technically inclined and have a great interest in technology and computer science. So I chose this degree programme also because it has a good connection to hardware, as it is an engineering degree programme. I can work in many companies here in Esslingen and the surrounding area because it is a very sought-after degree programme. You have good access to industry, to many engineering and computer science professions.
