Research Areas
The members of the Institute of Health and Nursing Sciences (IGP) work across three thematic research areas that address key challenges in the health and care sectors.
The research area "Interdisciplinary Research in Health and Nursing Sciences" brings together expertise from various disciplines to explore complex issues in healthcare and nursing. The focus lies on innovative, evidence-based solutions with practical relevance. Prof Dr Annette Riedel conducts research on ethical questions and palliative care, Prof Dr Christiane Gödecke investigates the care of vulnerable individuals in various healthcare settings, and Prof Dr Astrid Elsbernd examines the role of technology, system management and digitalisation in long-term care.
The area "Advancing Nursing and Other Health Professions in Science and Education" addresses transformation processes in professional practice and educational systems. The aim is to develop strategies for professionalisation and academic development in response to demographic, social and technological change. Prof Dr Mechthild Löwenstein focuses on educational topics such as competence-based learning and cooperation between learning environments. Prof Dr Alex Schmid works on legal and ethical aspects of healthcare, including human rights, guardianship law, disability rights, professional law, and legal questions related to the end of life. Prof Dr Neşe Sevsay-Tegethoff researches the effects of changing work environments and digital transformation in society.
In the third area, "Health Promotion, Prevention and Health Services Research", the IGP develops strategies and interventions aimed at improving public health and the quality of healthcare provision. Prof Dr Andrea Chmitorz works on mental health, resilience and digital approaches. Prof Dr Petra Wihofszky researches participatory health promotion, Planetary Health in nursing, and sustainability in healthcare. Prof Dr Reinhold Wolke focuses on the development and evaluation of concepts for effective and efficient nursing and healthcare services, including the analysis of innovations in products and processes.
