Erfolgreiche Teilnahme am "Stadtradeln 2023"
Eine Gruppe der Hochschule Esslingen nahm am "Stadtradeln 2023" (www.stadtradeln.de) teil. Alejandro Aznar Pretel, ein Student unseres internationalen Masterstudiengangs, erreichte fast 1200 km.
Maschinen und Systeme: Lieber Alejandro, herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deinem beeindruckenden Ergebnis beim "Stadtradeln 2023". Du studierst unseren Masterstudiengang "Design und Entwicklung im Automobil- und Maschinenbau". Woher kommst du und wo hast du dein Bachelorstudium absolviert?
Alejandro Aznar Pretel: Ich komme aus Valencia (Spanien) und habe dort meinen Bachelor im Maschinenbau gemacht.
MS: Im Wochendurchschnitt warst du in den drei Wochen des "Stadtradelns" ca. 400 km mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs. Das ist wahrscheinlich etwas, was man als Anfänger nicht schaffen kann. Hast du eine "Radfahrgeschichte"? Wenn ja: Bist du Mitglied in einem Radsportverein oder fährst du mit Freunden? Wo fährst du am liebsten?
AAP: Ich fahre schon seit vielen Jahren Rad, aber intensiver seit etwa vier Jahren, als ich mein erstes Rennrad bekam. Im Laufe der Jahre habe ich die Anzahl der Kilometer pro Jahr gesteigert - jetzt sind es etwa 15000 km pro Jahr. Ich trainiere nicht ernsthaft, sondern fahre nur zum Spaß, um neue Orte zu entdecken und Abenteuer zu erleben. Seit letztem Jahr tendiere ich mehr zum Langstreckenradfahren, lange Fahrten (> 200 km) fast ohne Unterbrechung. Das ist für mich das ultimative Abenteuer, vor allem in einem neuen Land, in dem jeder Ort erst noch entdeckt werden muss. Deshalb fahre ich jede Woche viele Kilometer.
Normalerweise fahre ich allein, aber ich freue mich über spontane Begegnungen, denn meistens treffe ich jemanden, der zum Teil die gleiche Strecke fährt, eine Gelegenheit, sich zu unterhalten und ein paar Gedanken auszutauschen, und manchmal finde ich sogar einen neuen Freund. In Esslingen fahre ich auch mit einigen Kollegen von der HE.
Was die Orte hier in der Gegend angeht, so mag ich die Schwäbische Alb oder im Norden das Lindental sehr. Wenn man ein bisschen weiter weg fahren kann, ist der Schwarzwald fantastisch, und das Gleiche gilt für das Allgäu. Wenn ich mich aber entscheiden müsste, dann sind die Schweizer Alpen und die Pyrenäen das ultimative Paradies für mich als Kletterer.
MS: Hast du dein eigenes Fahrrad mitgebracht, als du nach Esslingen gekommen bist?
AAP: Ja, überall, wo ich hingehe, versuche ich, mein Fahrrad mitzunehmen. So kann ich die Gegend erkunden und einige Einheimische kennen lernen.
MS: Bist Du immer dieselbe Strecke gefahren oder hast Du die Gelegenheit genutzt, die Region um Esslingen zu erkunden? Welche Orte haben dir am besten gefallen und warum?
AAP: Unter der Woche bleibe ich für kurze Fahrten in der Gegend, normalerweise fahre ich in das Remstal und die verschiedenen Steigungen und Wege durch die Wälder. An den Wochenenden oder für längere Bikepacking-Touren fahre ich entweder in den Schwarzwald oder auf die Schwäbische Alb, oder weiter südlich in Richtung Bodensee und Schweiz. Der Kraichgau im Norden ist auch schön, oder am Neckar entlang im Süden. Wenn ich mich jedoch für einen Ort entscheiden müsste, wäre es die Gegend um Sonthofen-Oberstdorf.
MS: Nun ist das zweite Semester deines Studiums vorbei und du wirst wahrscheinlich bald mit deiner Masterarbeit beginnen. In welchem Bereich wirst Du arbeiten?
AAP: Ursprünglich wollte ich an etwas arbeiten, das mit dem Fahrrad zu tun hat, aber ich hatte ein Angebot für eine Stelle in Genf, das ich nicht ablehnen konnte, und das mit Design und Entwicklung zu tun hatte. Danach werde ich mir überlegen, ob ich wirklich in die Fahrradbranche einsteigen will, denn vielleicht ziehe ich es vor, es nur als Hobby zu betreiben, anstatt mein ganzes Leben darauf zu konzentrieren. Das ist etwas, worüber ich noch nachdenken muss.
MS: Letzte Frage: Wie kam es zu der Idee, in Esslingen zu studieren und bist du mit deiner Wahl zufrieden?
AAP: Seit dem Abschluss meines Studiums wollte ich einen Master machen, und da ich eine Zeit lang Deutsch lernte, dachte ich, dass es in Deutschland sein sollte. Esslingen war die erste Wahl, ich kannte den Ruf der Hochschule Esslingen und die Verbindungen zur Industrie, besonders in einem Ort wie Stuttgart/Baden-Württemberg. Bis jetzt bin ich mit meiner Wahl sehr zufrieden, nicht nur die Hochschule erfüllt meine Erwartungen, sondern auch die Region und die Leute, Kommilitonen und Einheimische, die ich getroffen habe, waren immer sehr nett zu mir.

Successful participation at „Stadtradeln 2023“
A group of Hochschule Esslingen participated at „Stadtradeln 2023“ (www.stadtradeln.de). Alejandro Aznar Pretel, a student of our international master’s programme, reached almost 1200 km.
Mechanical and Systems Engineering: Dear Alejandro, congratulation to your impressive results at "Stadtradeln 2023". You are studying our master's programme "Design and Development in Automotive and Mechanical Engineering". Where do you come from and where did you do your bachelor studies?
Alejandro Aznar Pretel: I come from Valencia (Spain) and I did my bachelor studies there, the Mechanical Engineering degree.
MS: On the weekly average you were approx. 400 km on your bike within the three weeks of "Stadtradeln". That probably something beginners are not able to do. Do you have a "bike riding history"? If yes: Are you a member in a cycling club or do you ride with friends? Where are your favourite places to ride?
AAP: I've been riding for many years now, but more intensively since four years ago, when I got my first road bike. During the years I've been increasing the amount of kilometers per year - which is now around 15000 km per year. I don‘t train seriously, just ride for fun, to discover new places and have adventures. Since last year, I've been leaning more towards long distance cycling, long rides (>200 km) almost non stop. This I consider the ultimate adventure, especially in a new country, when every place is yet to be discovered. Thus the big mileage every week.
I normally ride alone, but enjoy spontaneous encounters, most days I find somebody doing partly the same route, an opportunity to talk and share some thoughts, and sometimes, even make a new friend. In Esslingen I also ride with some colleagues from HE.
About the places here in the area, I really like the Schwäbische Alb area, or to the north, around the Lindental. If you can go a bit further, the Black Forest is amazing, and the same goes to Allgäu. If I had to choose though, being a climber, Swiss Alps and Pyrenees are the ultimate paradise.
MS: Did you bring your own bike with you, when you came to Esslingen?
AAP: Yes, everywhere I go I try to take the bike, it allows me to travel around and discover the area, and meet some locals.
MS: Did you always ride the same route or did you use the opportunity to explore the region around Esslingen? Which places did you enjoy most and why?
AAP: During the week, for short rides, I stay in the area, normally riding the Remstal valley and the different climbs and pathes through the forests. During the weekends, or for long bikepacking trips, its either Black Forest or Schwäbische Alb, or further south towards Bodensee and Switzerland. The Kraichgau area to the north is enjoyable as well, or following the Neckar to the south. If I had to choose one place however, it would be the area around Sonthofen-Oberstdorf.
MS: Now, the second semester of your study is over and you will probably be starting with your master's thesis soon. Which field will you be working in?
AAP: Although initially I wanted to work on something bike related, I had an offer for a place in Geneva that I couldn't reject, related to design and development. After this finishes, I'll think if I really want to enter the cycling industry, as maybe I prefer to just keep it as hobby, rather than focusing my whole life about it. It's something I still have to think about.
MS: Last question: How did the idea of studying in Esslingen arise and are you satisfied with your choice?
AAP: Since the moment I finished the degree I wanted to study a master, and since I was learning German for a while, I considered it should be in Germany. Esslingen was the first option, I was aware of the reputation of Hochschule Esslingen and the connections with the industry, especially in a place like Stuttgart/Baden-Württemberg. So far, I'm fully satisfied with the choice, not only HE is up to the expectations, but also the region and the people, classmates and locals I've met have been always nice to me.
