Your first days on campus

The lectures in the summer semester 2021 will start on 15 March 2021.
In the summer semester 2021, there will be no central introductory event in attendance due to hygiene regulations to contain the Corona virus. However, the faculties will welcome the new students in decentralised introductory events.

Your first few days as a student will be very interesting - our new students will gain lots of new impressions and be given lots of information over the course of the first week.

All the measures which the university has taken to stop the spread of coronavirus have been published on its special coronavirus page.

Updates from the Hochschule Esslingen on the Corona Situation

Starting off: what you need to know

    Information from the computer centre

IT services for your degree programme

The Computer Centre has collated all the important information about your university account, the LSF campus management system, the Moodle learning platform, the Webex conferencing tool etc. on the following page for first semester students, which you can access even without a university account:

    Information for first semester students

Further information in the intranet portal (login possible only with a university account)

The Computer Centre has provided detailed information on the university network in the intranet:

Information on access to the university network

    Mobile net instructions

Contact and support of the data centre

Note: The intranet links only work after you have received your login details for your university account.

    HE portal – University Intranet

The HE portal – enter the University’s Intranet

There are a number of areas that can be accessed by students that are not visible to external users. To reach this area, you need to log on to the HE portal. There you can find many topics of information that could be of interest to you.

You can access the portal with your personal username. There, you can find all the information you need about the lecture timetable/schedule (LSF), the learning platform, the University administration, and student representation - AStA, dates, and much more.

access the Intranet portal (after login)

    Classes begin on 15 March.

You generate your timetable by clicking on the following link.

    Health & Safety Information

    Health & Safety Information

Health & safety precautions can save lives.

A health & safety briefing will be held in your first days at the University.

The ongoing, still critical situation caused by coronavirus means that the general safety training for all first semester and newly enrolled students has been centralised and will again be offered and undertaken in the form of Webex events at the end of the semester break and the start of the summer semester 2021 at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences.

The health & safety briefings are compulsory, as they contain necessary information needed e.g. before you work in the labs.
This is also compulsory for students who have taken part in other health & safet briefings, either at work or at other universities.

The online training session takes approx. 30 minutes. You can use the chat function to ask questions which will be answered at the end of the session. After the training session, you will be sent a link to a questionnaire, which you then have to complete in full (don’t forget your name and student ID number!) and submit.

The training sessions will be held as Webex events. You can participate on one of the three dates listed below. Please click on the appropriate link to take part.

It is a good idea to enter the meeting 20 minutes before it starts so you can sort out any technical problems which may occur.

    Student ID

PLEASE NOTE: You must supply a passport photo in order to be issued with a student identity card.

Information on the student identity card and passport photo (university account required)

You will receive a student ID with the following features:

    •     Copy and print card (electronic purse)
    •     Electronic key
    •     Library card
    •     Student ID
    •     Pay card

The current situation means it is not possible to collect your student identity card in person from the usual collection points this semester. The Student Services and Degree Programme Management Department will therefore send out the student identity cards by post over the coming weeks.

    Student Advice Centre

The Student Advice Centre: support from day 1

Beginning your studies means starting a whole new part of your life. It is normal to feel insecure and to have lots of questions in this situation:

    • What kind of support can you offer? Who should I go to for what? What do I have to know about rules and regulations? How does this all work?
    • Am I going to manage ok in my studies? Am I going to find new friends?
    • Help! I can't find a place to live! Do I have enough money for this?

What to do when…?  The Student Advice Centre can support you from Day 1 in all general and personal questions. Advice is given in strict confidence.

Get to know the Libraries online

In order to familiarize students with all the services of the library, each campus has an orientation event at the beginning of the semester. The dates for the orientation events for the winter semester 2020 / 2021 will be published shortly.

A wealth of online material is available so that you can familiarise yourself with the libraries even before your first visit.

    Where are the lectures/classes held?

    How to find your room

The rooms at Esslingen University are numbered according to the following system:

    Example: S 1.204

S/F/G = The letter tells you which campus
(S = Esslingen City Centre Campus, F= Esslingen Hilltop Campus, Flandernstrasse, G = Goeppingen Campus)

    The number before the point
    tells you the building number

The numbers after the point tell you the room number:
the first number denotes the floor within the building.
If there is a minus sign (-1) before the first digit, the room is in the basement.

Thus, in our example, S 1.204 is located
    on the City Centre Campus
    in building 1
    on the 2nd floor
and has the room number 204.
