The Friends of the University (VdF) is a non-profit organisation that aims to provide long-term support to Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. The VdF was founded in 1949 by alumni of the State Engineering School of Esslingen, the precursor of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences developed.
After the fusion of Esslingen University of Social Sciences and the University of Applied Sciences in 2006, the VdFs of the two universities also fusioned into the VdF's current composition, and was officially registered as such in November 2007.
The VdF is in constant contact with industry, commerce and local associations, and supports the university and its students in various ways, namely through:
- monetary and material donations to finance the newest technologies in the university labs;
- organising lecturers from industry and commerce;
- internship placement in Germany and abroad;
- supporting the financing of new academic programs;
- student scholarships;
- and much more.
