Laboratory Business Applications (LBA)

We cover the following topics:

  • Introduction and application of business IT systems, especially SAP
  • Documentation and goal-directed process design: business process modelling, process management, particularly to define indicators to assess the processes and
  • Because what we do is always IT related, we think it's important to also teach you which data for indicator determination are contained in the system in the first place and which data you will not find there: data modelling, databases, business warehousing, data mining.

Our aim is to equip our students with the skills to operate and apply IT-aided tools to solve business problems in the company. We focus on two main areas: process management and business intelligence.

Our process management training equips our graduates with the skills to understand what makes a company tick, which we view as being able to:

  • recognise and understand business processes in the company;
  • assess processes by means of Best Practice examples;
  • develop indicators and measurands for processes in companies.

Our business intelligence training equips our graduates with the skills to become decision-makers/managers, which we view as being able to:

  • provide the management of international companies with goal-directed information;
  • prepare company decisions in the global business environment and make decisions autonomously with the aid of suitable tools.

CORE COMPETENCES

We offer you the opportunity to become familiar with the practical aspects of control mechanisms and indicators across all the functional subjects. Specialist talks by people in industry or the opportunity to obtain course credits in collaboration with industry maintain the practical relevance of the lectures.

The advantage of process-related tasks and content is that you learn to introduce all the basic knowledge on business and production management you have gained in the various lectures into process design and database management. This is important because unlike functional areas, processes are company-wide and integrative.

We acquire projects from industry which a team of students can work on as part of a 3-week project. We define the contact persons and supervise the students during the project. We are present during the interim and the final presentations.
