Software Engineering and Media Computing (B.Eng.)

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IS PRESENT IN NEARLY ALL AREAS OF MODERN LIFE!

In cars, consumer products, production plants, computer networks, space stations - in a nutshell, information is being recorded, processed and communicated absolutely everywhere. The computer sciences provide us with the technologies which enable this to happen and develop solutions for the future. The IT sector enjoys very high rates of growth and the long-term careerprospects are outstanding.

In the Software Engineering and Media Computing Bachelor's programme, experienced professors working in research and industry teach students everything they need to gain a successful entry on the professional ladder. Great emphasis is placed on a sound training in mathematics, software engineering and computer science. This broad-based training forms the basis for further specialisation in either Software Engineering or Media Computing. The programme’s high level of practical relevance enhances the knowledge acquired. All project works are undertaken in small groups in well-equipped laboratories. An internship shows students how industrial projects are undertaken and managed.

From the 2nd semester onwards, the Software Engineering and Media Computing programme branches into two specialisations - Software Engineering and Media Computing.

It is also possible to complete this programme in the “study at your own pace” support programme.

Support programme participants have longer than the maximum study duration to complete the courses.

Specialisation

Media Computing
Graduates can work on engineering questions in the field of information technology and especially in the field of media informatics, both independently and as part of a team. The competences, methods and skills taught will enable you to solve new technical problems of a complex nature at the interface between information technology systems and people. The graduates master the techniques for the design and realization of multimedia information systems and know about the aspects of software ergonomics and human perception.

Software Engineering
Graduates can work on engineering questions in the field of information technology and in particular in the field of software technology both independently and as part of a team. The competences, methods and skills taught will enable you to analyse complex questions in the field of information technology and to methodically design, implement and verify program systems for their solution. In addition to a broad scientific education, preferably in the fields of programming methods, operating systems, databases and system architectures, the graduates are also qualified for the responsible, goal-oriented management of software projects.

In study specialisation Software Engineering there is the possibility to acquire a double degree of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (B.Eng.) and our partner university Gannon University (B.Sc.).

You can produce software for interactive information systems which are intuitive and comfortable to use. You utilise Internet technologies, create web portals and applications for mobile end devices. You will model 3D computer animations and create virtual worlds in product development.

Your professional challenges will be:

  • design of user-friendly software
  • software development of interactive information systems
  • programming apps for mobile devices
  • modelling 3D computer animations and using virtual reality in product development
  • as a freelance usability expert or consultant for barrier-free and user-friendly software

Specialisation Software Engineering

After graduation, you can work as a specialist or manager in software development. The sound knowledge you have acquired on software architectures enables you to plan, design and model software systems and to programme software systems to a high degree of quality. As a software developer you are able to work in all sectors of industry which need software systems.

You work with specialists from other areas in interdisciplinary collaborations. This requires you to have broad, general basic knowledge and also outstanding IT knowledge.

Your professional challenges will be:

  • modelling complex software systems
  • developing distributed Internet applications
  • designing information systems
  • customer support or technical service and sales/marketing
  • freelance software developer and consultant
