Welcome to South Africa
Summerschool - Septemberschool 2025

The German University Consortium for International Cooperation (DHIK) is an association of 37 universities in German-speaking countries that jointly run exchange and double degree programs with foreign universities.

The Technological Higher Education Network South Africa (THENSA) is recognised as a vibrant, innovative consortium for advancing technology-focussed institutions with a transformative societal impact.

Together we want to break new grounds and are offering a summer school for the first time in September 2025.

Be one of the first participants of this pioneering partnership at the Cape Peninsula University of Technologie (CPUT) in Cape Town!

The application deadline has expired (31.05.2025)

Sustainable Development: Management and Technology

Davon schwärmte Dr. Miemsie de Jager, Projektmanagerin von THENSA, beim Abschied von der Septemberschool: „There was throughout a truly Ubuntu spirit“.

Prof. Dr. rer. pol. habil. Dr. h. c.

Sustainable Development: Management and Technology

I want to personally express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible opportunity you provided me. This experience has been one of the most meaningful and transformative of my life.”
THENSA-Student

Cape Town is the country's oldest city and the seat of the Parliament of South Africa.
Although it is the second largest city of South Africa, after Johannesburg, it is known for its habour and its natural setting.
This is why Cape Town was named the best place in the world to visit by the New York Times.

Table Mountain is one of the most well-known mountains in Africa. It provides a magnificent view to cosmopolitan Cape Town.
Take the lift to explore one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Traditional lunch time at Hout Bay:
- Fish & Chips or
- Salad roll & Chips (for vegatarians)

We will do this excursion at the beginning of the September School, so you can get a feeling about everything.
Afterwards you can reach out to our local coordinator to plan your own additional trips in your free time.

Franschhoek wine tasting tram

Germany has the best beer in the wold, but South Africa has the best wine in the world.
So you have to experience an exceptional wine tasting while enjoying the serene surroundigs of the Franschhoek mountains and vineyards in the most exclusive locations.
The tram will stop at a few farms, where we be split in 3 groups so that everyone has a more individual experience.

This day will be the ultimate spoil and the perfect opportunitiy to relax and celebrate life.

Robben Island and V&A Waterfront

Half-day excursion and guided tour to Robben Island.
Robben Island is known as the Apartheid prison and “Mandela University”

Light lunch at the famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
Afterwards you can explore this neighbourhood and enjoy the nightlife at the fun places of Cape Town.

Individual Tours on your own expense in your free time:

We also want to make sure that you have enough free time to explore the region on your own.
A list of further attractions and acitivities, that we highly recommend, will be provided to participants in advance.
Additional excursions are optional and may be organised if there is sufficent interest on your own expenses

We hope that there will also be time to mix and mingle and make friends during social activities according to the motto:
Celebrate Diversity - Share Knowledge!
