Ecological public transport was brought a step further by pilot project Fahrrad2Go (Bike2Go), initiated by the Rems-Murr county and the OVR bus company, in cooperation with Esslingen University of Applied Sciences.

This project aimed to improve the availability of public transportation for cyclists, encouraging and enabling a combination of transport means that allow people to travel further, more easily.

Under the direction of Graduate School Professor Dr. Greuling, DDM students Jonathan Mejia Gomez, Joscha Sontheimer and Olli Hurri developed a new concept to transport up to 5 bicycles at the rear of public buses run by the OVR. The hydraulically activated carrier system is able to load bicycles with low effort due to the reduction of loading height and inclination angle. This innovative and environmentally friendly concept developed by our students has now been awarded one of the prestigious prizes of the ÖPNV (Germany’s Public Transit Corporation).

The ceremonial presentation of the Fahrrad2Go project was presided over by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Winfried Hermann.
