CORE COMPETENCES - TECHNOLOGIES OF THE FUTURE
Economic success in Europe increasingly depends on high-tech products. The function of a surface (protection, dirt absorption, cleaning ability, haptics, sliding properties) and its appearance are becoming more and more important.
Innovative materials based on nanoparticles, for example, can now be used to produce coatings with considerable added value and additional functions, e.g. self-healing, self-cleaning or combination coatings to replace coatings with many individual layers.
This programme combines two fields of study - materials and their properties, and interface and surface technologies. The know-how from paint technology, which ranges from the chemistry and physics of colloids (the range 1nm to 1 µm is now known as “nanotechnology”) and interfaces through to production engineering, is combined with knowledge from the field of material technology and inorganic and metallic layers, to facilitate the development of new materials, composites and whole components with customised surface properties.
Apart from gaining special expertise, you will learn to adopt an interdisciplinary approach in your work, to think scientifically and acquire an understanding for complex relationships. In state-of-the-art, outstandingly equipped laboratories you will be taught the practical knowledge you need and will apply the theory to practical issues.
Management skills
Knowledge of product and innovation management and business management prepares you for positions of leadership. The interdisciplinary nature of the degree programme also paves the way for you to act as the link in an interdisciplinary team in which business administrators, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, physicists, designers etc. collaborate on the design of new products.
