You have decided to study chemical engineering/paint and lacquer at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. How did you find out about the course?

Through a school internship at FreiLacke, I was able to get to know the coatings industry as an exciting and yet rather unknown field of application for chemistry. I became aware of the course in combination with my training as a coatings laboratory assistant.

Why do you think the course is particularly attractive?

The degree program offers the opportunity to receive a broad, general chemical education in combination with specialization in paint technology issues. Coatings engineers start their careers as technical experts and can understand raw material influences in coatings formulations.

What is special about the program is that the small number of students in the semesters creates a family atmosphere. The students are not just anonymous numbers, but are known by the professors. The good accessibility through short distances and the quick answers, even to questions beyond the study, are not self-evident.

The linking of theoretical content with practice in the laboratory is valuable. The internships in the laboratories contribute significantly to understanding and also make it easier to start a career.

You found a job in industry straight after graduating with a bachelor's degree. What are you doing now and how do you like your new job?

I work at FreiLacke as a developer for coating systems in the composites product group. My job is to develop coatings for wind turbines.

What I particularly like about my job is the varied daily routine. This comes from the combination of formulation work, calculations, research and documentation at my desk and practical work in the laboratory.

I particularly enjoy being part of a team.
