Why did you decide to study in Esslingen?
I had already trained as a paint laboratory technician and wanted to build on that with a degree. The choices were Esslingen, Krefeld or Paderborn. I followed the best call and therefore went to Esslingen to the FHTE (at that time still).
How did you feel about your time as a student in Esslingen?
The student time was very orderly, the course of studies very structured and focused on the diploma. Despite this order, it was a very familiar time with a familiar atmosphere. I knew each other quite well because the study program was not too large.
Did your studies prepare you well for your professional career?
Since I had already completed an apprenticeship, I had a clear idea of what to expect. That's why I was able to organize my studies accordingly and was therefore well prepared.
What opportunities has studying in Esslingen opened up for your career?
Studying "paint engineering" always opens up opportunities for a career, as there are few fresh specialists in the industry. The possibility of completing practical semesters or the diploma thesis abroad also expands your own repertoire and therefore also increases your chances in the job.
How has studying in Esslingen changed your life?
During your studies, you gain a broad insight into the industry, expand your network and, if you want, get around the world a bit. This experience automatically changes you. But the Swabian mentality will also leave no trace on anyone.
What advice would you give to a first-year student?
The orientation to industry should definitely be strived for. Internships, vacation jobs or work-study jobs in nearby companies intensify the practical relevance and thus create advantages after graduation. In addition, students should take advantage of the opportunity to spend an internship semester in a foreign country in order to broaden their horizons.
