Transferplattform BW Industrie 4.0

The "Transferplattform BW Industrie 4.0" is a collaborative initiative between the Universities of Applied Sciences in Aalen, Esslingen and Reutlingen, and the Steinbeis Foundation; it is funded by Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing Construction.

The project aims to start up and permanently establish a transfer company which will provide expertise and research to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in particular, to help them make better use of the great opportunities afforded by digital transformation and the good competitive situation to be found across Baden-Württemberg. The transfer activities concentrate on digitisation and the use of artificial intelligence in the automotive industry, and by its component suppliers, equipment suppliers and service providers. SMEs in particular are having to implement customer requirements faster and faster and be flexible in the way their production operations react to new demands.

The non-profit Steinbeis Innovation Center (SIC) Transfer Platform Industry 4.0 was founded for the Transfer Platform BW Industry 4.0. The SIC will set up test environments in the labs of the participating universities, including the VAL, with the aim of providing SMEs with low-threshold access to Industry 4.0 technologies.

The project received its first funding from Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and HousingConstruction  in 2017. In 2020, the Transfer Platform BW Industry 4.0 received supplementary funding for a further two years because so many of its transfer projects had been successful.
