The Vehicle Lab belongs to the Department of Automotive Engineering.
It deals with vehicle components of the suspension system and drive line, as well as with the vehicle as a whole, the sum of all the system components.
For this purpose several test rigs and measuring equipment are available:
On the single-axle rolling road tractive forces and fuel consumption can be measured at speeds up to 250 km/h.
On the universal tyre test rig EUREPA (Esslinger Universal Reifen-Prüfanlage) wheels and tyres can be tested under various driving conditions and tyre characteristics can be established.
A servo-hydraulic vibration test rig is available for investigating the suspension and damping response of wheel suspensions. The rig is also capable simulating road profiles.
For road tests several vehicles are available which can be equipped with instruments for measuring several quantities.
