Automotive Engineering (B.Eng.)

General Information

The Faculty of Automotive Engineering offers a degree programme in Automotive Engineering leading to a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.). Students wishing to take this programme must have three months of pre-degree practical experience in a technical field or have gained experience of a similar nature while at school or during their vocational training.

The programme is offered each semester. The standard duration of the degree programme is 7 semesters including an internship of choice in Germany or any other country.

You will spend three semesters of the Bachelor’s programme learning the general fundamentals of automotive engineering.

On completion of the Bachelor’s programme, students may take the continuation Master’s in Automotive Engineering, Automotive Systems or Design and Development in Automotive and Mechanical Engineering (Master’s programmes taught in English in the Graduate School).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR THE TASKS OF TOMORROW

The Faculty of Automotive Engineering works in close cooperation with industry to train competent, teamwork-oriented engineers. The programme offers you broad-based scientific and practice-oriented training which will subsequently enable you to work in a wide range of different fields. We are continually updating the training content in collaboration with our Automotive Engineering Industrial Advisory Board, our group of service experts and our numerous part-time instructors from industry. You may also complete part of your study programme at a foreign university or do an internship abroad. This advanced qualification enhances your already excellent career prospects. We support you as you complete the programme.

Career Prospects

Motor vehicles are necessary to satisfy the needs of the individual and the needs of society for mobility and the transportation of goods. Since the best solution for this basic task depends to a very great extent on changing technological, economic, environmental and safety constraints, there will always be a great demand for automotive engineers in the most diverse fields of activity and with different specialist knowledge.

On completing your degree in automotive engineering, you can work on the development and design of vehicles and automotive components:

  • on testing complete vehicles and assemblies
  • on the computation (simulation, strength) of automotive components
  • in technical service and customer service at automobile manufacturers and suppliers
  • in technical sales of automotive components
  • in the use of components in complete assemblies and vehicles
  • in quality assurance at automobile manufacturers and suppliers
  • in technical documentation of complete vehicles and the main components
  • as a specialist or assessor for vehicles and components
  • as project manager in vehicle and component development
  • as a head of a team, department or company primarily in the automotive industry.
