Structure of the Master's degree program

The full-time Master's degree program takes place over three semesters and is divided into modules. Students acquire 90 credits which translates into a workload of 750 hours on average per semester. Successful graduates obtain the qualification of Master of Arts (M.A.) in Nursing Sciences.

Structure of the Master's program: 4 module fields

1. Applied social sciences research

with compulsory modules, e.g.:

  • epistemological basis of empirical social sciences research or
  • methods of data analysis in empirical social sciences research



2. Advanced nursing sciences

with electives, e.g.: 

  • new developments in national and international nursing sciences
  • theory-to-practice transfer in nursing


3. Interdisciplinary profile of nursing sciences

 (only one may be selected)

  • European health and social policy
  • vocational and professional training
  • quality development, evaluation, assessment of performance



4. Master's Thesis

and supplementary modules


There is an intentional degree of overlap with the Master's degree program in Social Work. In this way, students on both degree programs can learn about interdisciplinary working.
