Structure of the degree program

Structure of the degree program and qualifications obtained:

  • duration: 7 semesters, including the basic part of the degree program (2 semesters) and the main part (5 semesters)
  • in the 4th semester (program A) or 5th semester (program B) students undertake a practical semester
  • in the 5th and 6th semester (program A) or in the 6th and 7th semester (program B), students work in groups independently on a project and learn to develop their creative and innovative potential
  • each semester of study is worth 30 credits 
  • qualification: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Social Work
  • the qualification entitles the holder to enter the Master's degree program in Social Work.

Compulsory modules

In the compulsory modules, basic knowledge in all six fields of study is acquired. 

It is possible for students to create their own study profile by selecting particular areas of emphasis; this enables them to tailor their individual profile of competences:

  • by selecting advanced electives
  • in their projects
  • in courses offered in the general part of the program

Electives

The elective modules are oriented towards particular areas of work or target groups. In the 3rd and 4th semester (program A) or in the 6th semester (program B) students select one elective. The electives currently on offer are: 

Elective 1:
Social work with families in general social services and advice centres.
Elective 2:
Mentoring, socialisation and educational work with children and young people to complement work in schools and families
Elective 3:
Social work with with children and young peolple in children`s homes
Elective 4:
Public, mobile and private / non-profit sector work with children and young people
Elective 5:
Social work with women and girls / men and boys
Elective 6:
Social work with elderly people
Elective 7:
Social work in the area of housing, work and vocational qualifications

Elective 8:
Social work with offenders
Elective 9:
Social work in the area of substance abuse
Elective 10:
Social work within the health care services / health care within social work services
Elective 11:
Social work with people with disabilities
Elective 12:
Social work and migration
Elective 13:
Social work and integration into the world of work
