History

  • 1970: application to convert the Stuttgart Technical College for Painting and Decorating into a College of Colours and Coatings Engineering
  • 1972: founding of the Faculty of Colour and Coatings (Chemistry) at Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences 
  • 1973: teaching starts in the winter semester, 1973/74
  • 1976: move to the laboratories in the new building of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule für Druck)
  • 1979: renamed as Faculty of Colour, Coatings and Plastics.
  • 1980: introduction of entrance requirements (numerus clausus) for 30 university places
  • 1996: relocation of the Faculty with its eleven professors and five staff members to Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (then Hochschule für Technik); degree program renamed as Chemical Engineering/Colour, Coatings and the Environment 
  • 1997: founding of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering
  • 2003: renamed as Faculty of Natural Sciences. Founding of the degree program Biotechnology/Life Sciences. Focus on "technology and design" and "product management" in the degree programs Chemical Engineering/Colour, Coatings and the Environment.
  • 2005: introduction of Bachelor's degree programs in Chemical Engineering/Colour, Coatings and the Environment, and Biotechnology.
  • 2007: inauguration of the new biotechnology laboratories.
  • 2009: introduction of the new Master of Science (MSc) degree program in Applied Surface and Material Sciences
